    Description

    Galerius 293 -311 A.D.
Galerius started out in life as a herdsman, but after valiantly serving in the armies of Probus and Aurelian, he eventually achieved the status of Caesar in 293 A.D.
Some believe that emperor Diocletian's infamous persecution of Christians was instigated by Galerius, who strongly supported the pagan gods.
And yet, ironically, Galerius issued an edict of toleration just prior to his death, asking that Christians pray for him.
He died in 311 A.D., possibly from gangrene.
