    Description

Ancient Roman Bronze Valentinianus Flavius Julius Valens 364-378 AD Coin.
Younger brother of Valentinian I. Despite his uninspired early military career, he was made Eastern Emperor in 364 AD by Valentinian I. A careful administrator, Valens was able to lower taxes. As a military leader his forces defeated the Goths in 369. He also won a mild victory in Armenia in 371. His rule and life ended in 378 when he suffered one of the greatest Roman military defeats at the battle of Adrianople. Valens was killed by the Huns along with two thirds of the Roman army.
Please see photos for condition as I do not grade coins. I purchased this several years ago, but do not have documentation. Buyer assumes responsibility. Thanks
